Teachable moments
While my student was presenting a new term to us in an activity I call "Language Detective", she was confused about "rise" and "raise", a tricky pair of words. I thought this might be a good opportunity to try and clear it up, especially since we had learned the phrase "raise children" the day before.
During a discussion about education using new education vocabulary, I tried to elicit the word "Bachelor's" as in "Bachelor's degree". See how I explicitly explain the pronunciation and have them chorally repeat this new word.
This moment led to a tangent of vocabulary words: Bachelor's degree, Baccalaureate, and Bachelor meaning "an unmarried man". In an attempt to save time in our class, I asked a student to research these new words for us and present them tomorrow. One student eagerly volunteered.
Giving instructions
These videos show me giving instructions for a writing assignment and checking understanding of those instructions.
